Change login screen

GNOME - Apr 28 2010
Question:How can I install GDM themes and change my login screen on Fedora 12?

Answer:I'm not in Gnome now but there is a menu entry like 'Login window' or something like that under System > Administration I think.
It will open the GDM settings and in one of the tabs you will find several GDM themes to choose from. If you want something else you can download a GDM theme from this site.

 themes not supported in FC12

I am using Fedora 12 too, and it seems to me that the GDM which is installed in FC12 is not theme-a-ble.

From the help for GDM in FC12:

"GDM 2.20 and earlier supported the ability to manage multiple displays
with separate graphics cards, such as used in terminal server
environments, login in a window via a program like Xnest or Xephyr, the
gdmsetup program, XML-based greeter themes, and the ability to run the
XDMCP chooser from the login screen. These features were not
added back during the 2.22 rewrite."

As you may notice, XML-based greeter-themes are listed as not supported.

What a shame. Maybe in 2.30 and following (Gnome-version)

now you can't use GDM themes any more, but you can customize the login screen to some extent. if you have ubuntu, ubuntu tweak lets you change the logo, and background image (as long as you copy it to /usr/share/backgrounds).

my preferred way, tho, is running this command to bring up the appearance preferences in the login screen, then you can change the background, font, theme, and everything.

here is how to do it both ways:
