Problem with Importing Emails

KDE - Jul 15 2010
answered
Question:Hi,

When i imported old outlook Emails(.PST) in Evolution. The Email folder (.evolution) get maximum size, the size including current mails & Imported mails,in the case mails are not receiving.

In outlook the imported mails are get in to outlook as additional and size will not add to default mail size location.

I hope you all get my point, can you help me to solve this issue.

Answer:Outlook does not compact its database/mail store until you tell it to, new emails get stored in the spaces left by the old deleted emails. Compacting can take 6 or more hours.

Outlook starts to become non-functional when its database nears 2GB size.

i just went through this and had great luck w/ the readpst application, a command line tool for converting PST to linux mail client formats.

if you can copy the PST file to your linux system you can convert it to mbox format for easily importing into any linux mail client (KMail, Evolution, etc) using:

readpst -M /path/to/Outlook.pst -o /path/to/convertedmailfolder/

note that you have to create the target folder before running this command.
